Overview

In this one semester program, students acquire foundational knowledge and skills in technical communication, algebra, learning skills and problem-solving strategies, and computing concepts. 

Students who successfully complete the program will be given priority seating into one of the following technician programs of their choice:

  • Information and Computer Systems Technician Program offered by the Computer Science Department
  • Computer Network Electronics Technician Program offered by the Electronics and Computer Engineering Department
  • Engineering Graphics Technician Program offered by the Mechanical Engineering Department.

Learning Outcomes


At the completion of the program students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate basic technical writing, reading and communication skills required for effective professional communications.
  • Use the appropriate software to produce documents that meet industry expectations.
  • Demonstrate competency in core algebra topics sufficient for entry into the target program.
  • Solve simple engineering/technical problems using introductory math and computing skills and knowledge.
  • Apply basic computer terminology, concepts and applications to experiential learning activities.

Program Completion Requirements


  • Students must complete all program courses and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 to graduate from the program.  Students must also obtain a grade of  “C” or higher in ENGL 130  and MATH 139  .
