||Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting
The Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major provides students with a solid foundation in business while specializing in accounting principles and practices to prepare for the challenging, lucrative career in the highly dynamic fields of accounting, finance and assurance.
The program includes all the prerequisite courses to enter directly into the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Professional Program (PEP).
Students can enroll in the program on a full-time and a part-time basis. This feature recognizes and accommodates the many accounting students who are attempting to obtain a degree while maintaining a full or part time job.
Applied, experiential learning is an important and integrated part of the program. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to participate in an optional applied work experience during their program of study. This work experience may be recognized as part of the professional bodies’ own practical work experience requirement.
Students prepare for immediate employment in an accounting position in business or government and for further study at the graduate level. The graduates’ employment skills will relate directly to the following occupations: Business Consultants, Controllers, Corporate Accountants, Financial Analysts, Financial Planners, Financial Managers, Management Accountants, Internal Auditors, External Auditors, Public Accountants, Treasurers, Asset Managers, and Business Owners. The ultimate employment destinations for graduates include private practice, business, crown corporations, and government agencies.
At the completion of the program students will be able to:
- Seek employment in an accounting position in business or government and/or seek further study at the graduate level.
- Analyze financial information using specialized knowledge gained in the fields of financial accounting, managerial accounting, auditing, and taxation.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand the other functional areas of business (for example: human resources; marketing; finance; information technology and operations), and be able to apply, integrate and evaluate the relationships between these areas and accounting.
- Synthesize and use financial information in the context of broad-based business information to assess complex problems and cases.
- Understand the components of and be able to produce clearly written reports, business plans, financial statements and other documents.
- Evaluate problems and information in a broader environment encompassing the social and political contexts in which organizational decisions are made.
- Analyze the fit between ethical principles and ethical practice.
- Integrate learning from various fields of accounting and other business functions through applied learning experiences in the classroom and/or work-integrated learning.

*** Elective Guidelines - Six Elective Courses:
- One (1) Elective: Any 100 or higher level Approved Course
- Two (2) Electives: Any non-School of Business Approved Course 100 level or higher
- Three (3) Electives: Any non-School of Business Approved Course 200 level or higher or Any School of Business Course 200 level of higher
UT Math: Two university transfer Math courses are required & BUS 231 counts as one of them.
- Students may only use one of two or more courses with equivalent content and different names for credit towards completion of program credential.
- Courses NOT acceptable as elective credit toward the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting program:
Some additional courses are not acceptable as elective credit toward the degree. All electives should be chosen in consultation with the Department Chair or an Academic Advisor.

Optional Program Credential Designation
A student who does not successfully complete three (3) Cooperative Work Experience courses will not qualify for a Cooperative Education Designation; however, the student will qualify for an Internship Designation if they have successfully completed a minimum of one (1) Cooperative Work Experience Course.
Program Participation Requirements
- Many first year Business courses require Math as a prerequisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, MATH 073 , MATH 077 , MATH 137, or “C+” in MATH 072 , MATH 075 , or MATH 135). Students may enter this program without Math but please note, students must complete one of the Math courses as listed above or successfully complete Camosun’s Math assessment in or before their first semester of study.
Program Completion Requirements
- Residency Requirement: A minimum of 10 courses must be taken at Camosun including ACCT 480 and at least seven (7) 300-level or higher Accounting (ACCT) courses.
- To qualify for a BBA - Accounting credential, a student must complete all required program courses and electives, and achieve an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (‘C+’).
