Overview
This program is designed to provide a solid foundation for an individual planning a career as an administrative professional. In addition to business communications, introductory accounting, information management and human relations skills, the graduate will have indepth exposure, as an end-user, of the technologies required for today’s office.
The Office Administration Certificate Program is offered full and part-time and in both a face-to-face and online learning formats. Students are advised to contact the appropriate Program Leader or Department Chair to review the options.
Employment possibilities range from entry-level administrative positions to executive assistants as well as self-employment opportunities.
Students may be able to use courses taken in this program in other credentials in the School of Business or the College.

Learning Outcomes
At the completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Apply administrative principles and skills to support and enhance the effective operation of a business or organization workplace.
- Use effective verbal, written, electronic and non-verbal communication behaviours appropriate to the intended audience following appropriate workplace standards.
- Use effective interpersonal and inter-culturally appropriate skills with individuals, clients and teams to enhance communications and work collaboratively and cooperatively within the workplace environment.
- Use effective critical-thinking and time management skills to facilitate effective decision making and problem solving.
- Demonstrate professional, accountable and ethical skills in an appropriate business setting.
- Produce and distribute accurate business documents using appropriate software tools and platforms [channels] in a variety of business/workplace contexts.
- Demonstrate an ability to interact with clients in a respectful and culturally sensitive way.
- Take direction, make decisions and initiate appropriate action as required.
- Apply organizational skills to facilitate the completion of tasks and to meet deadlines.
- Locate, retrieve, produce, manage and organize data and information using appropriate and secure file management systems.
- Apply basic accounting procedures to record and complete basic financial functions.

Program Participation Requirements
- Many first year Business courses require Math as a prerequisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, MATH 073 , MATH 073 , MATH 137, or “C+” in MATH 072 , MATH 075 or MATH 135). Students may enter this program without Math but please note, students must complete one of the Math courses as listed above or successfully complete Camosun’s Math assessment in or before their first semester of study
