Overview

The Diploma in Massage Therapy prepares graduates to become independent, successful, and professional health care providers in the area of massage therapy.

The program includes advanced theoretical knowledge and the practical application of the skills necessary to provide safe, effective, and ethical massage therapy that meets entry to practice requirements of the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC. Students learn to apply principles of physical, health, and social sciences as they relate to massage therapy in the classroom, simulated environments, and through clinical placements in the community.

Career/Academic Advancement Opportunities

Graduates who attain a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) designation are qualified to seek employment opportunities in a variety of settings such as private practices, massage therapy clinics, Chiropractic, Athletic Therapy and Physiotherapy multi-disciplinary clinics, elite athletic teams, wellness centers, and spa resorts.

Massage Therapy is a regulated profession in British Columbia and graduates will be eligible to write the registration examination set by the College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC. Graduates who attain a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) designation are eligible to sit the exam to obtain the Sport Massage Therapy Certificate.

Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will be able to

Apply knowledge of clinical conditions and pathophysiology to patient assessments
Critically evaluate patient case histories, conditions, and impairments to inform a treatment plan

Interpret clinical manifestations of specialized conditions and impairments to safely and effectively treat patients

Program Participation Requirements

Student attendance at a program Orientation session scheduled by the Centre for Sport and Exercise Education (CSEE) is mandatory. Clear expectations for the program and issues which may interfere with progress in this program will be addressed at this time.
Some courses in this program will require math as a pre-requisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, MATH 077 , or MATH 073 ; or “C+” in MATH 075 , or MATH 072 ). Students may enter this program without Math, but must complete one of the Math courses listed above or successfully complete Camosun’s Math assessment.
Students must obtain Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification and submit before starting clinical placement and must keep their certifications current throughout clinical education.
Criminal Record Check is required.

Program Completion Requirements

A minimum letter grade of C in each course (or COM in clinical placements) is require to graduate from the program.
