Overview
This program will interest students who want to understand the ways in which communication influences and reflects society and culture, and how digital technology mediates the communication process. Students take five core courses that provide a broad base of applied theoretical knowledge, a production course for hands-on experience, and four electives which they can use to customize their credential.
Opportunities for Academic Advancement
Students completing this program will be able to to seek transfer credit into the second year of the BA in Digital Media at Vancouver Island University (VIU) or continue to other programs at Camosun, including the Arts and Science Studies program.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will be able to
- Use written skills and digital media tools to collaborate and communicate
- Quickly and effectively research and analyze a communication issue or problem and apply their findings to determine an effective course of action
- Evaluate digital communication as an element of history, politics, organizations, identity, society and culture
- Summarize the history of digital communication and explain digital convergence
- Discuss the issues and concerns arising from the impact of digital media on communication in contemporary society
- Develop and apply workplace preparation strategies and skills
Note:
* Students may use COOP WEP in lieu of CDEV WPS .
** Any 100-level or higher course which must transfer to at least one post secondary college, institute, or university per the British Columbia Council of Admissions and Transfer guide at BC Transfer Guide.

Additional Information
- The standard start date is the Fall semester although students may begin at the start of any semester. Some of the required courses are offered only in Fall or Winter and students should plan accordingly.
- Students receiving the Certificate in Digital Communication may be able to:
- transfer into the second year of the BA in Digital Media at VIU (students who wish to do this must achieve a minimum grade of C+ in CMNS 150 ) or
- continue their studies at Camosun in the second year of the Diploma in Arts & Science Studies or other programs.
