Overview

The Information and Computer Systems program prepares graduates for employment by providing solid foundational skills and knowledge in computing systems, programming, software, data, and technology related business concepts.

The analysis and development of practical IT solutions in a rapidly changing technological environment are emphasized in this program. Learners acquire fundamental knowledge of computing systems and information technology and combine these with the interpersonal skills needed to be successful in the workplaces of today and the future. Our learners develop the ability to acquire new skills, think critically, problem solve both individually and as a team, and communicate effectively with all levels of IT users.

Project-based learning activities and work-integrated learning opportunities (Internship) are available to students in this program.

Graduates of the one-year Information and Computer Systems Technician certificate are prepared to work in the exciting world of computer information technology. Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will be able to 

  1. Assist with programming, deployment, security and maintenance of software applications
  2. Retrieve, store and maintain data in keeping with industry and client standards
  3. Apply basic knowledge of operating systems and networks to the implementation and administration of computer systems and networks
  4. Apply knowledge of common operating systems and software applications to troubleshoot and provide customer support
  5. Communicate and work effectively with team members, employers, technical and non-technical personnel
  6. Demonstrate professional and ethical responsibility in their practice as a technician
