Overview
The Education Assistant and Community Support program prepares learners to offer ethical, professional, and culturally safe disability supports to people in the context of home, school, work and community settings. Guided by a social justice perspective, learners also develop a practice framework that supports the quality of life of people with diverse needs in inclusive communities while emphasizing their rights and self-determination. Graduates have the knowledge, skills and values necessary to provide and advocate for person-centred supports that enhance quality of life, and are prepared to work in positions with people with diverse abilities and their families, in a variety of educational and community settings. Graduates receive partial credit towards the completion of the Community, Family and Child Studies Diploma. In addition, learners may receive credits from various post-secondary programs in either social work or child and youth care.
