Overview

The Electrical Foundation Program is a 24 week program designed to prepare individuals for employment in the Electrical Industry. The knowledge, skills and attitudes that will enable students to become valuable and safe apprentices has been developed by the assistance and support of the Electrical Industry. The curriculum is organized into competencies under the major categories of Common Core, Occupational Core and Electrical Specialty. The course is a combination of technical knowledge and required practical shop skills.

  • C in MATH 057  

Note: ​If you don’t have one of the preferred math requirements the college will accept a “C” or higher in Foundations of Math 11, or Pre-calculus 11, or Applications of Math 11, or Principles of Math 11, or MATH 073  or MATH 137.

Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will be able to 

  1. Safely and effectively utilize meters, tools and equipment prevalent in the electrical trade
  2. Install, troubleshoot and maintain electrical conductors, components, and equipment in accordance with established standards, practices and codes
  3. Calculate electrical circuit quantities
  4. Use a logical thinking process for problem-solving and decision making
  5. Take responsibility for decisions and action
  6. Communicate clearly and appropriately in written and spoken English and visual form
  7. Interact with others within groups or teams in ways that contribute to the effective working relationships and achievements of goals
  8. Creatively adapt to new challenges and technologies by applying and/or updating your knowledge, skills and attitudes

  • ELEC 120 - Electrical Occupational Core - 240 hours
  • ELEC 130 - Electrical Specialty - 240 hours

Program Completion Requirements


  • A cumulative average of 70% of all program courses.
