Overview
Students gain a solid foundation in first year sciences and academic writing alongside an introduction to engineering mechanics and project design. Through engineering career investigation and interactions with student colleagues and engineering professionals, students will be encouraged to develop their aspirations as members of an engineering community.
Opportunities for Academic Advancement
This program prepares students for entry into either the second year Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) or Bachelor of Software Engineering (BSEng) at the University of Victoria (UVic). Students may also apply for course-to-course transfer to other post-secondary institutions.

Admissions
One of: One of: One of: And one of: Note: B or higher in Physics 12 is strongly recommended. Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will be able to -
Apply a foundational knowledge of mathematics, computer programming, chemistry and physics to engineering studies -
Write effectively for purpose and audience, apply research skills to produce academic and technical documents, and prepare and deliver professional presentations using appropriate visual aids -
Solve basic engineering mechanics problems involving distributed loads, equilibrium and analysis of statically-determinate structures including beams and simple trusses -
Follow a structured process to design a system comprised of electrical, mechanical, computer and software subsystems -
Work effectively in a team to successfully accomplish a design project Program Completion Requirements
- A “C” or higher in each course and a minimum GPA of 3.0 (C+) overall is required.
Additional Information
- The Engineering Transfer courses satisfy the entrance requirement into second-year engineering at the University of Victoria and guarantee students a seat in second-year engineering, though not necessarily in their preferred engineering discipline. UVic has competitive entry into some second-year engineering programs (e.g. Mechanical, Civil and Biomedical Engineering) as demand typically exceeds the available space. UVic students and transfer students are evaluated equally and seats are offered based on GPA.
- Students wishing to study engineering at any post-secondary institution must apply for course-to-course transfer. Students should check the BC Transfer Guide and contact their destination institution for transfer information.
