Overview

The Electrical Engineering Technology - Marine & Industrial program has been designed to prepare graduates for employment in the Marine Sector and in the general Industrial Electrical field. This program shares the first year of the Electronics and Computer Engineering Technology - Renewable Energy program. 

Within the first year, students will learn the fundamental theories and skills necessary to proceed to more advanced industry-specific topics. In the second year of the program, topics such as Electric Machines, Power Distribution, Control Theory, and others related to the electrical technology field will be presented. In addition, topics related to the marine sector will be introduced.

Students participate in and integrate their learning through a range of learning experiences including in class and project based learning. In the final semester of the program, students consolidate their learning in applied research and project management courses.

Upon successful completion of this program, the learner will be able to 

  1. Apply engineering, mathematical and scientific theoretical knowledge to the design, modification, construction, implementation and testing of electrical systems, circuits, equipment and PLCs
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental electrical systems, communication systems and environmental issues in marine systems
  3. Apply technical skills to design, construct, modify, and test electrical systems, circuits, equipment and PLCs
  4. Analyze, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems related to electrical systems, circuits and equipment by applying advanced principles of engineering, mathematics and science
  5. Conduct all work in compliance with relevant standards, regulations, codes, and safety practices
  6. Apply the basic principles of project management to the development and completion of electrical engineering projects
  7. Communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in spoken, written and visual forms appropriate to audience purpose and needs

Additional Information


  • Graduates of this program with a GPA of at least 5.0 (B) and no grade less than a “C” in any course are eligible to apply to a Camosun Engineering Bridge program which bridges to the third year of an engineering program at university to allow graduates to pursue an accredited bachelor degree in engineering.
