Overview

One in every ten jobs globally is in hospitality and tourism. In this highly applied program, you’ll gain the foundational skills and knowledge for entry into higher level positions and career opportunities in this dynamic industry.

You will gain real-world experience in Dunlop House, Camosun’s on-site restaurant. In this industry-level learning environment, you will develop the knowledge, skills and attributes needed across the hospitality sector.

In a supportive and vibrant setting, you will engage in practical, hands-on learning experiences, developing a true feel for the pace, culture, and demands of the hospitality industry. You’ll acquire the transferable skills relevant to sectors beyond food and beverage, including accommodation, recreation, travel and tourism, and event management.

Two paid work terms are integral to this immersive experience. Students gain valuable exposure to the breadth of career options and varied roles available in the hospitality industry.

The School of Business Hospitality Management program provides a foundation for advancement of personal and organizational leadership and supervisory skills, and opportunities to deepen business acumen. Students develop the ability to collaborate with others and manage operations and staff in diverse, fast-paced environments. They learn to integrate sustainable practices into hospitality management to ensure operations effectively balance economic, social, and environmental goals.

Professionalism is at the heart of the program. Alongside the ability to maintain standards and deliver high-quality service, students develop their leadership, problem solving, and decision-making skills, demonstrating accountability, resilience, and ethical judgement.

Career/Academic Advancement Opportunities

Students are job-ready upon graduation for careers in a wide variety of hospitality and tourism settings, including supervisory and management roles in hotels, restaurants, tourism companies, and resorts as well as positions in the business sector.

Graduates may continue their education through progression to year three (3) of Camosun’s School of Business, Bachelor of Business Administration programs or through transfer opportunities at other institutions.

Curriculum


Program Participation Requirements


  • Many first year Business courses require Math as a prerequisite (e.g. “C” in Pre-calculus 11, Foundations of Math 11, MATH 073  , MATH 077   or “C+” in MATH 072    or MATH 075  ).  Students may enter this program without Math but please note, students must complete one of the Math courses as listed above or successfully complete Camosun’s Math assessment in or before their first semester of study.
  • Students are required to show certification in FOODSAFE Level 1 and Serving It Right to complete HMGT 190. Students will be responsible for the costs of these certifications.
